A doctor who was found dead along with his wife in their Cross Lanes home had a revolver in his hand when the bodies were discovered, Kanawha County Sheriff's Cpl. Brian Humphreys said.

The bodies of Dr. Bruce Foster and his wife, Marlise, were found in their home on Flairwood Drive on Monday morning. Both had one gunshot wound to the head. A firearms trace is being conducted and detectives are awaiting the results of that trace to determine ownership of the gun, Humphreys said.

No suicide note was found. Humphreys said investigators are not releasing the possible motives at this time while the investigation is ongoing.

Eyewitness News has learned the names of the man and woman who were found dead inside a Cross Lanes home Monday.

Bruce Foster was reportedly a doctor at Thomas Memorial Hospital in South Charleston. Media outlets report that Foster specialized in end-of-life-care and was the author of a book titled "Death and Dying, or Can You Love Me Enough to Let Me Go?".

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
