Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin met with mayors from cities around the region Monday.
The West Virginia Municipal League Conference took place at the Charleston Marriott Town Center.
During Monday's meeting, Tomblin joined St. Albans Mayor Dick Calloway, area legislators and mayors to recognize the winners of the "If I Were Mayor, I Would . . ." Essay Contest.
More than 200 West Virginia 7th graders submitted essays about what they would do if they held public office. Three winners were chosen and each received a plaque and a cash prize honoring their work.
"Our city we have a lot of potential to do things but we need people that can actually make it happen," said Teresa Riffle, a seventh grader at Ravenswood Middle School. "People that can build and amphitheater along the river, things like that. It's what Ravenswood really needs," Riffle added.
Dunbar Middle School seventh grader Troy Tuttle and a student from Weirton also took home prizes from the contest.
