West Virginia needs more money for roads, but the debate is over where the money will come from. Senate President Jeff Kessler said he thinks drivers would be willing to pay an increased gas tax to fix the roads.
There's no bill on the table to increase the tax, but Kessler says the state needs to do something to come up with money to fix our road problems.
Some drivers said they were already paying enough.
“I’m against all of it,” said Kay Linville, of Charleston. “The gas is too high. We can't afford what we've got to pay now."
“I think it's bad right now, because the gas prices have been so high already,” said Lisa McCallister, of Boone County. “I just don't know how we're going to make it. You're basically working for gas."
Currently drivers in West Virginia pay 34 cents in state gas taxes per gallon. The state is fourth in the country when it comes to gas taxes.
