The point about the need for decent housing for families in West Virginia was driven home Friday one nail at a time.
During a contest sponsored at the West Virginia Capitol, legislators competed to see who could drive a 16 penny nail into a 2-by-4 the fastest. Herbert Hoover cheerleaders cheered on the sidelines for lawmakers as they vied for "The Fastest Nail Driver Award."
The event was part of Habitat for Humanity of West Virginia's Sixth Annual "Drive it HOME! Challenge on Housing Day.” The event is conducted to make affordable housing “a conscious state of mind” and to encourage legislators to make eliminating substandard housing one of their highest priorities.
The three fastest nail driving times will receive the "Prestigious Hammer" award Feb. 25.
