A man and a woman were sentenced Friday morning in Kanawha County Circuit Court for their roles in a violent purse snatching that occurred at a Kanawha County reststop.
Bradley Molden, 40, of Newark, Ohio, was sentenced to 20 years in prison for his role in planning and directing the crime. Stephanie Hammel, 45, of Utica, Ohio, was sentenced to 15 years in prison. She received a lighter sentence because she had no prior criminal history. They were sentenced by Judge Duke Bloom.
The two were accused of robbing Carolyn Boster, 75, of Hurricane in September 2012. Boster had just gone into the restroom when someone came up behind her, turned her around and grabbed her purse. Boster ran to try to retrieve her purse and in the struggle she was kicked by Hammel and knocked to the ground.
In court Friday, Boster gave an impact statement and said the robbery was the most terrifying experience in her life. She said her leg is still bruised and swollen from the incident.
