Kanawha County sheriff’s deputies said a vehicle pulled over for having a non-functioning taillight ended up with the driver being arrested on a drug charge.

Garin Michael Kincaid, 22, of Charleston was charged with his vehicle having defective equipment (a traffic offense for the inoperable taillight), driving while revoked for driving under the influence and simple possession of methamphetamine, according to a news release from the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office.

A deputy was on patrol on MacCorkle Avenue Friday in South Charleston when he made a traffic stop on a vehicle after noticing it had a non-functioning taillight. The release said the driver, Kincaid, was driving with a revoked operator’s license. The revocation became effective Jan. 15 and was for an aggravated driving under the influence offense.


While inventorying the vehicle so it could be towed, the deputy found a small bag containing a white, powdery substance. Deputies said it field tested positive for methamphetamine.

Kincaid was arrested and arraigned by Magistrate Brent Hall, who set Kincaid’s bond. The bond was a personal recognizance bond of $2,500. Kincaid was then released.
