Jamie Bartels was shot in the line of duty back in September. Fortunately, he's alive to talk about it. Bartels is still on his long road to recovery after police say Cole Miller shot Bartels during a domestic call on McCormick Road in Gallia County.

Bartels has had nine surgeries on his shoulder, arm and fingers. "I wasn't able to bend my elbow or move my fingers, now I have movement in my thumb and the doctor says that's a good sign that my nerves are regenerating."

Bartels says even though his life has turned upside down, he's on a mission to work with legislators and get a law passed that would force cities and counties to have enough officers to help handle dangerous calls. "It's a matter of back-up and having officers available to go into dangerous situations like we went into that night."

As for Cole Miller, the man who police say shot Bartels, he remains in jail. Bartels says, "I hope he gets the maximum on all charges."
