A new place to get some very special sweet treats has just opened in downtown Charleston.
Cakes By Appointment, located at 1030 Quarrier St., specializes in cakes for weddings, showers and birthday parties.
There also is a party room for people to rent to have small parties.
It has been a lifelong dream of Petra Valsale Newkirk to open her own cake business.
Newkirk is making cupcakes and cakes and cheesecakes for two for Valentine's Day.
