Marshall County has received the largest payment from the state's new coal severance tax fund.
The county received $148,288 from the Local Coal County Reallocated Severance Tax Fund for the period from Oct. 1 through Dec. 31.
The Intelligencer and Wheeling News-Register reported that Boone, Marion and Logan counties also received more than $100,000. Payments were distributed to a total 27 coal-producing counties.
The Legislature established the fund during a special session in August 2011. The fund receives the first 5 percent of state severance tax revenues paid by coal operators. Counties must use the money for economic development and infrastructure improvements.
