A Charleston mother described her terrifying ordeal early Wednesday morning. Patricia Holbert said her son, Joshua Holbert, 32, suffers from bi-polar disorder and has been battling a drug addiction for years. About 2:30 a.m. Wednesday, she said her son tied her up with duct tape after she refused to give him money. She said he wanted the money to pay a drug dealer who had some of his personal belongings. Patricia said when she refused to give her son the money, he became angry. She said she went to call police, but her son had unplugged the home phone in her home on Hardman Avenue. She said she then tried to dial 911 from her cell phone, but her son wrestled the phone out of her hands. She then said he duct taped her to a chair in her bedroom. She showed Eyewitness News the marks on her arms. Patricia said her son came to his senses and apologized and let her out of the duct tape. She went to a nearby gas station to call police. Patricia said her son has been off of his medication for bi-polar and was set to see a psychologist in March. She said it's challenging to get an appointment. Patricia said she loves her son and wants him to get the help he needs. She said she had no choice but to call police because she feared for her life. She said her son will not be allowed to come back and live with her in her home. Joshua Holbert is charged with kidnapping and second-degree robbery. He was lodged in the South Central Regional Jail. A Charleston man is accused of duct taping his mother to a chair and kidnapping her during a robbery. Court documents allege Joshua Holbert, 32, tied up Patricia Holbert when she refused to give him money about 2:30 a.m. Wednesday. The documents said Holbert told his mother he needed money to get his belongings back from a drug dealer. Cops found Joshua Holbert at the Holberts’ residence on Hardman Avenue after his mother got free and called police from a 7-Eleven.
