Putnam County plans to debut an adult drug court by this summer.
Putnam County Circuit Judge Joseph Reeder told The Charleston Gazette the adult drug court might be the last opportunity officials have to save drug offenders from prison time.
County Prosecutor Mark Sorsaia said abuse from prescription drugs and heroin have helped fuel a regional jail bill that has risen about $300,000 over the past two years. Sorsaia said the court especially might help younger adults who have a chance to get their lives back on track.
