The former treasurer of the Institute Volunteer Fire Department and the Kanawha Valley Chapter of West Virginia State University pleaded guilty Monday to embezzling thousands of dollars from the fire department.
Ethel Andrews, 74, pleaded guilty to two counts of embezzlement in Kanawha County Circuit Court.
Andrews told the court that she took the funds she needed to receive a reward that was offered to her through the mail. That "reward" turned out to be a scam.
Andrews will face two to 20 years when sentenced in March.
