A central Kentucky lawmaker said she and her colleagues will consider a bill that was initiated by a middle school.
Democratic state Rep. Rita Smart of Richmond visited Madison Middle School on Wednesday and told them a bill proposing October be designated as Anti-Bullying Month in Kentucky will be considered in February. The Richmond Register reports the bill would also make the school's colors of purple and yellow the official colors of the awareness campaign.
Smart proposed the bill after getting an email from assistant principal Scott Anderson.
Anderson said the school held a week-long Anti-Bullying Ribbon Campaign in October and wants to be "proactive" in putting a stop to bullying.
Student Bailee Banober said she hopes Madison Middle can motivate other schools to take an anti-bullying pledge.
