An Army sergeant and an associate have been sentenced on bribery and money laundering charges related to defense contracts in Kuwait.
Army Sgt. 1st Class Richard Evick of Parsons received concurrent sentences of a year and a day in prison. Crystal Martin received five years' probation.
The Exponent Telegram reported that both were sentenced this week in U.S. District Court in Wheeling.
Prosecutors said Evick received more than $170,000 in bribes from two companies that had U.S. Department of Defense contracts in Kuwait. Martin laundered the money through bank accounts in Kuwait and the United States.
Evick was a senior procurement officer at Camp Arifjan in Kuwait from February 2005 to December 2006. A federal jury in Elkins convicted the pair last June.
