Eight parents of several truant Kanawha County children were called to report to Circuit Judge Louis "Duke" Bloom's courtroom in Charleston on Wednesday.
Some of the kids in question are as young as 6 years old. Some had up to 25 days of unexcused absences from school. Three of the parents pleaded guilty, one pleaded not guilty but was found guilty. Charges against one parent were dismissed. Three parents were no-shows.
Bloom sentenced the first time offenders to 60 days probation and five days of community service. The parents also were ordered to pay court costs.
