Police at Ohio University in Athens County were on alert Wednesday afternoon after an armed suspect in a robbery was spotted near campus.
The alert prompted University President Roderick McDavis to close the campus, campus police said. All classes were canceled, and students and non-essential employees were asked to return to their residences.
About 9:30 a.m., Athens police received a report of an armed robbery at Station Street Apartments. The suspect allegedly had a handgun and fled. The suspect is described an African-American man, 6 feet 1 to 6 feet 2 inches tall, wearing a blue hoodie and blue jeans. Ohio University police began looking for the suspect.
