The thought of exercising alone stops some folks from ever heading out the door. On Sunday, hundreds of people will choose to get fit together.
Walkers and runners will be participating in the third and final installment of the Charleston Winter Series Walks/Runs. A 5,000-meter walk (3.1 miles) is scheduled for 1 p.m. and a 10,000-meter run is slated for 2 p.m.
Sponsored by the Tallman Track Club and the city of Charleston, the Winter Series offers walks and runs in December, January and February to encourage physical fitness.
All events start at 31st Street and Virginia Avenue. Registration is at Charleston Area Medical Center Memorial Hospital. Same day registration for the event is $20.
The courses are flat, marked and there will be traffic control at major intersections.
Runners and walkers who finish all three events in the series will receive a hooded sweatshirt. There are no age group awards in the walk, just the top three females and males. In the run, the top female and male will win awards. The run also has age group awards of at least three deep, but 25 percent will win awards in big age groups.
