Just remember these guys can be dangerous." With that warning troopers, deputies and city officers headed out Tuesday morning for an in person check on Kanawha County's 450 registered sex offenders.
Troopers want to verify the home addresses and other information offenders claim is true. Some like Rodney Johnson were busted. He had allegedly moved over two weeks ago without notifying the State Police and failed to register a cell phone.
Convicted sex offenders can get in trouble with the law by moving and not telling state troopers, by getting a job and not telling them, by buying a car or a cell phone and by being on a computer when they're not supposed to be.
The store William Ratliff told troopers he was working closed four months ago. Ratliff was arrested.
Deputies and municipal officers from several cities helped troopers contact hundreds of offenders spread over 900 square miles. Exact numbers of violations will be available later.
