The Federal Emergency Management Agency has disbursed more than $2.5 million to state and local governments since Superstorm Sandy. FEMA's Charleston branch chief Gary Brand said Monday that covers 64 projects. But FEMA will likely dole out $13 million altogether, with another 180 projects. Sandy dumped more than 2 feet of snow in the highest elevations, toppling trees and tearing down power lines in October. With more than 1.5 million cubic yards of debris on the ground, Brand calls it the largest debris mission in state history. State officials don't track damage to private property, so it's unclear how many homes and businesses were affected. Eighteen counties were eligible for federal assistance to repair or replace public property such as buildings, roads and bridges, and parks. Individual assistance wasn't approved.
