The warden of a Southeastern Ohio Jail said female inmate overcrowding is becoming more of a problem than ever before.
There are 32 beds available for women at the Southeastern Ohio Regional Jail in Nelsonville and they are often occupied.
A factor that could be contributing to the overcrowding is a 2011 state legislative change allowing lesser felons to be incarcerated in county jails.
Jail officials said it was seen as a way to save money and reduce the state prison population, but it can put a burden on local jails.
