A scary situation for some people on Charleston's West Side.

"A neighbor called me and told me to look outside and there was all kinds of cops cars here," said one neighbor, "and I didn't know what was going on."

Charleston police were called to Red Oak Street around 9 am Sunday .

The caller told Metro that a man was unresponsive inside the home.

"When police arrived they notified detectives. We went to investigate. It was determined that the victim was apparently doing drugs last night along with a group of people and apparently struggled for his life all night," said Lt. Steve Cooper of Charleston Police, "He was in and out of consciousness. The group he as with was using water to throw on his face and apparently had to use CPR one time."

But the people inside waited to call 911.

And when they finally did, it was too late. Emergency crews found the victim dead.

The resident of the home where the body was found was taken into custody for questioning.

But Lt. Cooper says more work needs to be done before any charges are filed.

"We're trying to track down the other individuals that were there that had the drugs. At this point were awaiting results from the medical examiner to determine the exact cause of death. Until the exact cause of death is determined we cant really move forward with the prosecutors office until all the facts are together."

But the possibility of drugs being the cause of death doesn't really surprise neighbors.

One neighbor, who did not wish to go on camera, says with Sunday's chaos, she questions not only her safety, but the safety of her two children.

"This block's quiet until these people moved in and then I've seen nothing but traffic come in and out. I don't know what's going on."
