The weather conditions Friday had other consequences besides lots of accidents on area roadways -- the cancellation of an annual basketball tournament in Huntington.
Tom Houvouras, chairman of the CSX Transportation 36th Annual St. Joe Invitational, said the tournament was called off for Friday due to the weather and road conditions. The reason for the cancellation was to keep players and attendees safe and off the roadways, according to a news release from the Big Sandy Superstore Arena. The basketball tournament is expected to resume on Saturday with a full schedule.
The schedule for Saturday will be:
11 a.m., Middle School St. Joe vs. Ceredo-Kenova.
12:15 p.m., Middle School St. Joe vs. Ceredo-Kenova.
1:30 p.m., Girls HS Eastern Meigs vs. Boyd County.
3 p.m., Boys HS Charleston Catholic vs. Wesley Christian.
5 p.m., Boys HS St. Joe vs. Wayne.
7 p.m., Boys HS Chesapeake vs. Mount Mission.
9 p.m., Boys HS Spring Valley vs. Fairland.
Tickets are $7 for adults, $6 for students and $3 for children younger than 12 years of age.
