A Barboursville Elementary School teacher received the surprise of a lifetime on her first day back from maternity leave
Whitney Stead came back to her kindergarten teaching job after having twins recently and was awarded a Milken teaching award at a special assembly this morning.
Stead received $25,000 and an honor that only 70 other West Virginia teachers have been awarded in the past 23 years.
There is no nomination or application process for the award. Teachers are selected for exemplary educational accomplishment in and out of the classroom.
New State Schools Superintendent James Phares made it to the special presentation for his first official visit to Cabell County.
