Shinnston Police Chief Michael Secreto has been fired amid an investigation.
Secreto had served as police chief since 2001. He had been a member of the police department since 1993.
Media outlets reported Secreto was fired Wednesday following an emergency City Council meeting on Tuesday.
City manager Debra Herndon said Secreto had been suspended Jan. 17, one day after city administrators received information. She declined to provide details, saying the investigation is ongoing.
Lt. Jason Carlson was named as acting police chief.
There was no telephone listing for Secreto in the Shinnston area.
