Two Huntington women were charged with counterfeiting after police said they tried to buy hundreds of dollars of items with counterfeit bills.
Emily D. Ballengee, 20, of Barboursville and Jennifer S. Thompson, 26, of Huntington were charged Tuesday with counterfeiting.
Huntington police said the two suspects tried to buy about $345 worth of cleaning supplies at a store on West 14th Street with a large amount of cash in mostly $10 bills, according to a criminal complaint.
The clerk noticed the money looked different and used a counterfeit pen that revealed the bills were fake, court documents said. Police said the suspects took the cash back and left, but were stopped a short time later. Police said they found nearly $1,000 counterfeit bills inside the car.
