The Department of Health and Human Resources is offering help for those struggling to pay the cost of heating bills. The Low Income Energy Assistance Program helps to pay the bills of heating cost for eligible households. Eligibility is based on a number of factors including income, type of heating payment and total heating costs. The Southwestern Community Action Council is hosting the application seminars from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Jan. 22 to Feb. 1 at several locations in Cabell County. Those locations include: Southwestern Community Action Council, Guyandotte Public Library, Goodwill and Scott Community Center in Huntington Hamlin Public Library, Hamlin Branchland Public Library, Branchland Alum Creek Public Library, Alum Creek For more information, call Southwestern Community Action Council at (304) 525-5151. The Department of Health and Human Resources will start taking accept applications for the Low Income Energy Assistance Program this week. People can apply for help with their home heating costs from Tuesday through Feb. 1. Applications are available at local DHHR offices, community action agencies and senior centers operated by any Area Agency on Aging. They're also available online at www.wvinroads.org. The application must be printed and mailed to the DHHR office located in the applicant's county of residence. Sending the forms to the wrong place or to a utility company will delay approvals. Eligibility is based on income and household size. Income must be at or below 130 percent of federal poverty guidelines: That's $2,498 per month for a family of four or $3,356 for family of six.
