Members of the Huntington Area Food Bank have released a statement regarding the embezzlement arrest of the organization's former director.
West Virginia State Police arrested Leigh Anne Zappin Friday evening at her Huntington home. Investigators say she stole around $24,000 from the charity.
"The Huntington Area Food Bank's Board of directors and employees have cooperated fully in this investigation and will continue to assist prosecutors as this case moves to through the court system," the food bank said in an emailed statement. "Throughout this unfortunate time, The Food Bank has and will continue to provide service to its member agencies and the nearly 100,000 people who need food each month in the Tri-State area. Although this is a difficult time for our organization, the needs of those we serve remain unchanged."
Zappin is charged with eight counts of forgery, eight counts of uttering and one count of embezzlement.
The former director of the Huntington Area Food Bank is behind bars accused of embezzling thousands of dollars from the charity.
