Kanawha County's recycling program is moving forward, following months of debate.
A private contractor will take over the Slack Street Center. West Virginia Recycling Services is set to take over operations from the Kanawha County Solid Waste Authority on Monday.
The move will lay off three county employees, but it is possible they will be rehired.
A representative for the new operator said officials plan to repair the center themselves and place importance on educating the public on the need to recycle.
