A Kanawha County man pleaded guilty in federal court to being a felon in possession of a firearm.
Randall Jim Hughes, 28, of Alum Creek, pleaded guilty Wednesday to being a felon in possession of a firearm, according to a news release from U.S. Attorney Booth Goodwin's Office.
The Kanawha County Sheriff's Department conducted a traffic stop of the defendant's vehicle on Feb. 2, 2012, near South Charleston. During the stop, a deputy sheriff found the defendant in possession of a .38 caliber revolver.
Hughes was previously convicted in January 2006 in U.S. District Court for the Southern District of West Virginia of possession of a firearm having an obliterated serial number. Hughes also was previously convicted in January 2006 in Kanawha County Circuit Court of unlawful wounding. The defendant did not have his rights to possess a firearm restored.
Hughes faces up to 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine when he is sentenced April 17 by U.S. District Judge John Copenhaver Jr.
