Charleston police continue to search for the man they said shot a a man in the chest, leaving him in critical condition at an area hospital Thursday.
Hai Nguyn, 47, was shot in the 800 block of Oakwood Road about 5 a.m. In a news conference Thursday, police said they recovered a handgun believed to be used in the shooting. Meanwhile, they continue to search for the suspect, who they said is a black male who was last seen wearing dark clothing.
Investigators believe the motive may have been robbery or a drug deal gone bad. Officers do believe the victim and the suspect know each other.
Nguyn, who lives in Charleston and is originally from Southeast Asia, was taken to a Charleston hospital for surgery, where he was in critical condition.

Police are searching for the shooter who wounded another person in South Hills early Thursday.
It happened in the 800 block of Oakwood Road about 5 a.m. Eyewitness News has learned one person was shot in the chest and taken to the hospital.
Police closed a portion of Oakwood Road at Cantley Drive for about an hour while they investigated. That portion of roadway reopened about 6:30 a.m.
No arrests have been made yet, and the victim's name and condition have not been released. Keep checking wchstv.com for updates.
Metro 911 dispatchers tell us that one person was shot in the chest early Thursday morning.
It happened around 829 Oakwood Road.
Police are searching the area for the suspect.
