A couple of sisters in the Charleston area are paying it forward.
Marianne Sydenstricker and her sister have been knitting scarves for many years.
The two women used to give the scarves away to help people stay warm, but recently decided to sell them, raising $500. The women gave the money to Manna Meal in Charleston. The soup kitchen provides meals to the needy twice a day every day of the year.
The sisters, who migrated from East Germany to Charleston 50 years ago, said they know what it's like to need a helping hand.
"I feel exhilarated when I can do something," Sydenstricker said. "When we lived in East Germany, care sent us a package when we were starving ... we want to extend it."
The women left about 20 scarves at Manna Meal for the homeless.
