With the talk of possible new gun regulations, there has been a run on ammunition. Certain calibers are sold out, nearly everywhere and that is affecting police departments.
"Where the demand is so high right now, for some calibers, the supply is almost non-existent," Captain Sean Crosier with the Kanawha County Sheriff's Office says.
Crosier says they are having to wait longer to get what they need.
"Where we used to wait just a few weeks or even a month for some calibers, now it's several months," Captain Crosier says.
Crosier says the longer wait first started about a decade ago, when America became involved in wars in the Middle East, but the ammo delay has become even longer recently.
"Purchasing ammunition has become even more difficult in recent months, and especially recent days, because everyone seems to be wanting some of the same calibers that law enforcement also uses," Crosier says.
Police use a bulk of the ammo for training purposes. Crosier says the public isn't in any danger but it has changed the way they operate.
"We just order it in much more advance than what we used to," Crosier says.
