WV UNEMPLOYMENT RISES West Virginia's Seasonally Adjusted Employment Rate Climbs In December

West Virginia's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate has climbed two-tenths of a percentage point to 7.5 percent in December.
WorkForce West Virginia said Tuesday that the number of unemployed state residents increased by 1,100 to 59,700.
The goods-producing sector saw an employment gain of 1,000, while the service-producing sector lost 100 jobs.
Within the goods-producing sector, job gains included 700 in manufacturing and 400 in construction. Mining and logging employment slipped by 100.
Total employment has fallen 13,900 since December 2011, including declines of 7,200 in the goods-producing sector and 6,700 in the service-providing sector.
West Virginia's unadjusted unemployment rate rose seven-tenths of a percentage point in December to 7.4 percent.
Nationally, the unemployment rate remained unchanged at 7.8 percent in December.
