The Charleston Fire Department is launching a recruitment drive for paramedics.
All applicants must be a certified paramedic and be less than 36 years old at the date of the applications. They also must pass a written examination and meet a series of other requirements.
The deadline to have applications returned is 4 p.m. March 4, and applications must be turned in at the Charleston Fire Department’s administrative offices at 808 Virginia St. W.

The written examination will take place 5:30 p.m. March 25 at the Charleston Civic Center, Room 206.
Candidates who successfully complete the written examination for the position of probationary firefighter/paramedic will be administered the following prerequisites – medical and eye examination, drug test, candidate physical ability test, background investigation and psychological testing.
Starting pay for firefighter paramedics is more than $38,000, and they receive a variety of other benefits including vacation, paid holidays, insurance and civil service coverage.
