An Ohio man was sentenced after causing the sprinkler system to activate in the Southeastern Ohio Regional Jail.
Shawn A. Smith, 42, of McArther was sentenced to six months in jail, according to a news release from Athens County Prosecutor Keller Blackburn. Smith pleaded guilty to two counts of vandalism in Athens County Judge L. Alan Goldsberry's courtroom. In July 2012, Smith threw a cup at the sprinkler system in the jail, causing it to activate, the news release said. Property inside the Southeaster Ohio Regional Jail was damaged as a result, the release said.
