Child abuse charges against a former Mingo County special education teacher have been dismissed in exchange for her giving up her certification.
Media outlets report that Tina Grace, 53, also agreed to drop a grievance she had filed against the Mingo County school board over her dismissal.
A county grand jury indicted Grace last July on two counts of child abuse and one count of battery. The charges stemmed from a state investigation into allegations that she and a teacher's aide used inappropriate disciplinary methods on special-needs students.
Mingo County Prosecutor Michael Sparks said the West Virginia Department of Education told him that Grace's name will go into a national database that tracks reports of teaching misconduct.
