It was a very somber evening at South Charleston Middle School as family, friends, and classmates came together to remember Lauren Swann who was taken far too soon.
"She was the best friend anyone could have. She was wonderful and cheerful," said classmate Hailey Lemon, "And she was so nice to everybody."
Lauren, an 8th grade student at South Charleston Middle School, passed away over Christmas break after a severe asthma attack.
And now classmates take time to remember her.
"She was a very nice person. The one thing that you will always remember about Lauren is her eyes," said classmate Elena Compton, "They were the most beautiful eyes you have ever seen. They were like the sky."
Since the news of Lauren's passing, staff and parents at South Charleston Middle School say the students have been hard at work organizing the vigil. Saying it was all their idea and wanted to hold it for one reason.
"For Lauren, we wanted to remember her, celebrate her," said Lemon.
And from a tragedy comes a lesson.
Fellow classmate Isaac Winfree says Lauren leaves behind many memories, but one goal in life for those who were close to her.
"Never take your life for granted. Live every day until the end. Try your best. Do your best. Just live."
