Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin Friday released additional details about his inauguration and said the public is invited to the inaugural ceremony. The state's 35th governor begins at 1 p.m. Monday at the South Plaza of the state Capitol and a public reception at the Great Hall of the Culture Center immediately follows the conclusion of the ceremony, according to a news release from the governor's office. The theme of the inauguration is West Virginia First. The ceremonies will include musical performances by the 249th West Virginia Army National Guard Band, the Concert and Cantare Choirs of the Appalachian Children's Chorus, and the Martin Luther King Jr. Male Chorus. Following the oath of office, the 1st Battalion of the 201st Field Artillery will recognize Tomblin by firing a three-gun salute. Governor Tomblin spoke with Eyewitness News after the inaugural rehearsal Sunday afternoon. "I'm excited, and hope to have a lot of people show up. We are really looking forward to it." In preparation for the ceremony, Kanawha Boulevard will be closed to the traveling public beginning at 5:30 a.m. Monday. California Avenue will also be blocked at the East Wing loading dock until the conclusion of the ceremony. Attendees and ceremony participants may park in the public parking areas of the state Capitol Complex. Due to security issues, umbrellas will not be permitted and large handbags are discouraged. Due to public safety and logistical issues, executive branch employees whose offices are located at the state Capitol Complex are encouraged to work from a remote location or from home that day. Employees may direct questions to their immediate supervisors. A viewing of the inaugural ceremony will be available inside the State Theatre at the Culture Center. MORE NEWS FROM EYEWITNESS NEWS
