A Lincoln County woman was sentenced to 10 years in federal prison after being convicted of robbing a Lincoln County bank and a Putnam County nursing home.
Morgan Marie Mullins, 26, of West Hamlin was sentenced Thursday. Last year, Mullins plead guilty to interfering with commerce by threats of violence, using and carrying a firearm during and in relation to a crime of violence and armed bank robbery, according to a news release from U.S. Attorney Booth Goodwin.
Police said Mullins used a pistol to rob a Hurricane nursing home of prescription pills and cash from a bank in Lincoln County.
"This case shows in very stark terms the devastating effects of the prescription drug epidemic," Goodwin said. "The defendant’s crimes were shocking and now she has 10 years to think about the effects of those crimes."
Mullins admitted that on May 2, 2012, she robbed the Teays Valley Center nursing home located in Hurricane, W.Va., at gunpoint. In addition, she admitted to robbing on-duty employees of controlled substances, including prescription painkillers.
At the time of the robbery, Mullins was employed at the nursing home.
Then on May 22, 2012, Mullins robbed the City National Bank located in West Hamlin, Lincoln County, of about $3,000. Mullins admitted using the same nine-millimeter pistol for both robberies.
The defendant further admitted that at the time of both robberies and for the past three and a half years, she has been addicted to oxycodone.
