Two women were arrested after Charleston police said they found methamphetamine and meth-making materials in their vehicle at a sobriety checkpoint.
Jennifer Michelle Johnson of Charleston and Jaime Nicole Myers of Hurricane were arrested about 9:30 p.m. Wednesday at a sobriety checkpoint in the 3900 block of Seventh Avenue in Charleston, according to criminal complaints filed in Kanawha County Magistrate Court.
Police said Johnson was driving a vehicle that was pulled over at the sobriety checkpoint because she had a can of Coleman fuel at her feet. The complaint said that Johnson and her passenger, Myers, seemed to be impaired. The suspects were asked to exit the vehicle. When police searched the car, they said, they found materials commonly used to make methamphetamine and less than one gram of meth.
Two firearms and ammunition also were found in the trunk, police said.
Both women were charged with operating/attempting to operate a clandestine lab. They were lodged in the South Central Regional Jail.
This is not the first time the women have faced drug charges. In November 2012, Myers and Johnson were charged along with another suspect with attempting to operate a clandestine meth lab after they were arrested at Jarrett Terrace, an apartment complex on the West Side of Charleston.
Johnson also was sought by police in July 2012 after police said they found a meth lab at her home near Nitro High School.
