A man who police said crashed his vehicle into five others parked on the West Side of Charleston was charged with second-offense drunken driving.
John Barron, 30, of Charleston was arrested following the incident that occurred about 8 p.m. Wednesday in the 700 block of Washington Street West, Lt. Shawn Williams of the Charleston Police Department said.
Williams said Barron was heading east when his vehicle struck five vehicles on the south side of the street and a fire hydrant. The water company was called to inspect the hydrant, and the vehicles that were struck sustained heavy damage.
Barron's blood alcohol level was 0.0165, Williams said.
Charleston police arrested a man they said smashed up five vehicles on the West Side.
The incident happened Wednesday evening right outside Mrs. Groovy's Restaurant
Witnesses said the driver of the white sedan grazed four vehicles and slammed into a fifth vehicle on Washington Street West.
The driver then fled the scene and hit a fire hydrant.
Police said the driver appeared drunk and took him into custody.
