A Huntington couple was arrested after police said they found possible drug use and deplorable conditions in their house. Steven McCarthy, 23, and his wife, Stacy, were arrested Monday afternoon. Police were responding to a welfare check at their home on 10th Street. Inside, they said they found animal feces and urine. There also were moldy dishes in the sink, no running water and very little food in the residence, police said. Authorities said there also is no gas hooked up to heat the home. Police found extension cords from an unknown location used to run two space heaters that also were deemed unsafe. Syringes were found in reach of the two children. Neighbors said they are relieved that action was finally taken to get the kids some help. The children, 7-year-old twins, were taken into protective custody. The McCarthys were taken to the Western Regional Jail. Police said drug use and filthy conditions in a Huntington home led them to arrest a man on multiple child neglect charges. Steven McCarthy, 23, is charged with two counts of child neglect creating risk of injury after police conducted a welfare check Monday afternoon. They said they found animal feces and urine all over the home on 10th Street. There were reportedly moldy dishes in the sink. Police said there is no running water or gas to heat the home. They also say they found extension cords from an unknown source being used to run two portable heating devices. Those heaters were in a dangerous position and in reach of two children in the home, police said. Police also reported that McCarthy was using intravenous drugs and there were syringes in reach of the children. McCarthy was being held at the Western Regional Jail. MORE NEWS FROM EYEWITNESS NEWS
