A Huntington couple was arrested after police said they found possible drug use and deplorable conditions in their house.
Steven McCarthy, 23, and his wife, Stacy, were arrested Monday afternoon.
Police were responding to a welfare check at their home on 10th Street. Inside, they said they found animal feces and urine. There also were moldy dishes in the sink, no running water and very little food in the residence, police said.
Authorities said there also is no gas hooked up to heat the home.
Police found extension cords from an unknown location used to run two space heaters that also were deemed unsafe. Syringes were found in reach of the two children.
Neighbors said they are relieved that action was finally taken to get the kids some help.
The children, 7-year-old twins, were taken into protective custody. The McCarthys were taken to the Western Regional Jail.
