Some city officials in one Kanawha County town will see more money in their paychecks later this year.
Dunbar City Council members voted in favor of salary raises for the mayor and city clerk at Monday evening's council meeting.
The proposal for those raises was introduced at the city's last council meeting.
Mayor Jack Yeager said the city's budget permits a $3,000 raise for those positions.
Currently, the mayor makes $38,000 each year, but with the approval of the salary increase, the position will pay $41,000.
Yeager said the raises are consistent with a 25-cent per hour raise granted to city workers last year.
"The mayor, of course, is a difficult job. The mayor of Dunbar makes proportionate to the other mayors but not as much as the other mayors because the cities are slightly bigger, but it's a 24-7 job," Yeager said. "We're hoping we can entice people to come and apply and run for the job."
The increases will take effect after the city's election winners take their seats in July.
