Huntington's new city leaders met for the first time in council chambers Monday night. Four of the five new members attended the special call meeting and voted for a new chairman and vice-chairman. Mark Bates is now Chair, Sandra Clements is Vice-Chair.
New members of council told Mayor Steve Williams they look forward to working together with his administration. The city's finances and image are top of the list.
Councilman Gary Bunn said, "We're going after the money owed to us. We have to do that."
Mayor Williams has already implemented a spending and hiring freeze to help with finances. He plans to get rid of the occupation tax and just rely on the user fee to help with road repairs and beefing up the police department.
