A lawsuit has been filed over mugshot websites. The website wvjails.info is just one online site that has recently come under scrutiny. A lawyer from Ohio has filed a class-action lawsuit over the site.
The site displays mugshots from all jails and prisons statewide. If your picture is on the site, you have to pay about $50 to get it removed.
According to an article in the Charleston Gazette, the lawyer said the practice "amounts to . . . fraud and extortion."
This website is registered to Jason Watson of Clarksburg, and is now under investigation by the Better Business Bureau.
