The Union Mission has received a more than $50,000 donation from a nationwide Christian music tour. The Union Mission was given $51,797.51 by Winter Jam. Thousands of people attended Winter Jam 2013 - a night of worship at the Charleston Civic Center Friday. The event featured solo musicians, bands and speakers. The capital city was the first stop on the East Coast tour. Organizers said they had never donated a love offering to an organization, but felt God leading them to do so. On its Facebook page, the Union Mission said, "All we can say is, 'Wow. God is Good. He knows just what we need and when we need it. Praise God and thank you!' " No word on what that money will be used for just yet. Thousands of people packed into the Charleston Civic Center for a serious jam session Friday evening. Winter Jam 2013 kicked off their east coast tour in the capital city Friday. Ten Christian acts took the stage including bands and speakers. Show goers shelled out $10 to attend and people reportedly had to be turned away because the arena reached full capacity. Headlining the tour was a guy who is no stranger to Christian music fans. TobyMac, formerly of DC talk, and his band took the stage last. The singer told the crowd that his parents were born and raised in West Virginia. TobyMac grew up in Virginia, but said that it was an honor to kick off this year's tour in "Almost Heaven." Former American Idol contestant Jason Castro also took the stage, singing when the audience was encouraged to donate to a love offering. Organizers said for the first time in the history of the event, the money collected during the offering would be given to an organization that gives back to the community of Charleston, West Virginia -- the Union Mission.
