University of Charleston banners are now hanging on the former Mountain State University campus in Beckley.
The university has officially taken over the campus, which is now UC-Beckley.
University of Charleston President Ed Welch told The Register-Herald that it's a sad time of transition for many people who were long associated with Mountain State. But it's an exciting time for the University of Charleston.
UC-Beckley area President Jerry Forster says the school has hired many Mountain State faculty and staff.
Classes begin Jan. 14. About 500 students are expected to be enrolled at UC-Beckley for the spring semester.
The Higher Education Policy Commission revoked Mountain State's accreditation in June 2012.
The University of Charleston also has taken over Mountain State's operations in Martinsburg
