West Virginia is one of several states where a fight is brewing over requiring voters to show photo identification.
Republicans plan to resume their push for Voter ID after gaining their largest share of the House of Delegates in decades.
House Minority Leader Tim Armstead said the proposal makes elections fairer. The Kanawha County Republican cited how people must show ID to cash checks and even to enter sporting events.
Secretary of State Natalie Tennant is West Virginia's elections chief. Tennant said the state doesn't have a problem with voter impersonation. She believes the law already provides sufficient safeguards. Tennant instead is seeking GOP support for helping counties keep their voter rolls up to date.
National experts expect action on Voter ID in at least 11 other states in 2013.
