A national move away from 35-milimeter films is putting a Braxton County theater in jeopardy.
Chuck and Jane Murphy bought the Elk Theatre in 2007 to keep it from closing, and now they're fighting to keep it open.
The Charleston Daily Mail reports the Elk was built in the 1930s. It relies on 35-milimeter prints of films like those that have been used for nearly a century.
But in 2013, production companies will begin to rely solely on digital copies of first-run movies.
If the couple can't raise the $30,000 to $40,000 to buy a new projector by the end of 2013, they'll have to close the Elk.
That means residents of Braxton County will have to drive more than 30 miles to a movie theater. To donate, visit elktheatre.com.
